This time of year I love to find new ideas to make my classroom functional, yet cute. The way I figure it, I spend more awake hours in my classroom than any other room in my house. So, why not make it visually appealing! Here are some ideas that are functional, yet adorable at the same time.
Create a Cohesive Look
Can’t you just feel the soothing appeal of this chalkboard and burlap room created by Shelly Rees? How your room looks visually has a tremendous impact on you and your students’ mood. Rooms that are chaotic with a mishmash of posters and clutter are very distracting to learners and create an unsettled feeling. By contrast, a room with a cohesive color scheme and is well-organized calms everyone down. It also helps everyone be more productive doing the important tasks of learning instead of wasting time trying to find something.
This is my current color scheme. It reminds me of watermelon. The bright colors are a cheery start to my day. Melanie from Schoolgirl Style has a wide variety of themes to choose from.
Storage ~ Storage ~ Storage
I hate piles of paper. Yes, I know it’s a hazard of the job. But, I don’t have to let them bury me. I found bins like these at Big Lots. They sit behind my desk and hold tons of things I like to keep accessible but, invisible.
Hanging Job Chart
I liked this idea for functionality as well as a space saver. You could make these cards in any pattern that fits with your decor. Then attach them to a wide piece of ribbon. When its time to change jobs, simply move the clothespins! Love it!
